Description/ Tasting Notes

It has an opulent, glossy bouquet with layers of small dark cherries and plenty of glycerin. The palate is more reserved than the bouquet suggests: saturated tannins, a little chewiness on the entry but suppler towards the finish. It feels very linear in keeping with the style of the vintage, the finish a little sweet than its peers with a dab of licorice on the aftertaste.

Winery Info/ Brand

The Palmer Vineyards cover 55 hectares in the commune of Cantenac. Most of the plots are concentrated on a plateau of thin gravel from the Güntz period on the top of the rises of the Margaux appellation. The Palmer plateau is situated on these first gravel terraces along the edge of the estuary. As the saying goes in Bordeaux, the great terroirs overlook the river. The grape variety does not alone determine the character of the wine. Each variety, with its own characteristics, is merely the terroir's means of expression. The vintner's art consists in choosing the varieties best suited to the terroir and understanding the wine that come from it. Then comes the time for marrying them to yield a unique, inimitable Château Palmer.

Region Info/ Origin

The Margaux appellation encompasses the village of Margaux and the neighbouring villages of Arsac, Labarde, Soussans and Cantenac. Being the most southerly of the Médoc's appellations, it has the thinnest soil in the region with the highest proportion of gravel that allows the soil to drain very well. The wine from this area are very susceptible to weather effects during the growing season. Encountering all seasons with adequate irrigation, relatively good rainfall and good amount of sunlight, the crop yields a bountiful harvest year-on-year. The winery takes pride and value that captures the essence that reflects their unique brand.
