Winery Info/ Brand
At Château Dauzac, timelessness is an integral part of our art of living. Located at the heart of the Margaux terroir, the estate has crossed the ages surrounded by nature. Nestled in the heart of a vast wooded park, this beautiful chartreuse-style mansion is a treasure of Médoc architecture dating back to the 18th century. Château Dauzac and the neighboring farming buildings are all part of a large, 120-hectare estate, which also includes a contiguous vineyard and a beautiful park comprising an orchard and a conservation garden planted with rare species: Lebanese cedars, European nettle trees, ginkgo bilobas, American tulip trees, and Persian ironwood trees. A pond and stretches of grassland can also be found on the grounds. The farming buildings have been entirely renovated and now house a gravity-flow winery, built in 2004.
At Château Dauzac, grapes are harvested in small crates and left to ferment in brand-new wooden vats, combining tradition and modernity.
After the assemblage process, wines are matured in French oak barrels, in a beautiful, air-conditioned cellar. 60 to 80% of barrels are replaced every year, depending on the vintage’s characteristics. The barrels are manufactured by various master coopers; nuances in the manufacturing process are taken into account to manage wood tannin levels and aromatic complexity.
Region Info/ Origin
The Margaux appellation encompasses the village of Margaux and the neighbouring villages of Arsac, Labarde, Soussans and Cantenac. Being the most southerly of the Médoc's appellations, it has the thinnest soil in the region with the highest proportion of gravel that allows the soil to drain very well. The wine from this area are very susceptible to weather effects during the growing season. Encountering all seasons with adequate irrigation, relatively good rainfall and good amount of sunlight, the crop yields a bountiful harvest year-on-year. The winery takes pride and value that captures the essence that reflects their unique brand.
