Château Pape Clément is one of the oldest Grands Crus of Bordeaux with an interesting history to begin with. The first harvest took place in the vineyard in 1252 and was considered to be an iconic wine when Château inherited the name of Clement V after the reign of Pope Bertrand de Got in 1305. Since entrepreneur Bernard Magrez took over the Château, he ensured the exceptional terroir continues to flourish through time and to express the finesse that has made its wine so famous like that of the Grand Cru Classé. In particular, 2009 was an exceptional year for Château Pape Clément when it scored the legendary 100/100 score from the renowned wine critic, Robert Parker.Located in Saint Morillon in the heart of the Graves appellation, Chateau Villa Bel-Air is an 18th century property, which was bought in 1988 by Jean-Michel Cazes and his family. Advanced techniques are used in the process of producing red and white wine, which perfectly illustrate the finesse and complexity of Graves wine.
Region Info/ Origin
Pessac-Léognan is a wine growing area and Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée, in the northern part of the Graves region of Bordeaux. Unlike most Bordeaux appellations, Pessac-Léognan is recognised for both red and (dry) white wine, although red wine is still predominant. It includes the only red-wine producer outside the Haut-Médoc classified in the Bordeaux Wine Official Classification of 1855, the premier cru Château Haut-Brion, and also all of the châteaux listed in the 1953/59 classification of Graves. These classed growths account for a third of the wine produced in Pessac-Léognan.
