Château Talbot (the estate) has a rich history with its name originated from Connétable Talbot, a famous English warrior, governor of Guyenne, who defeated the battle of Castillon in 1453. Château Talbot was ranked fourth classified growth of Saint-Julien in the 1855 classification. For several decades, the estate belonged to the Marquis of Aux. In 1917, Désiré Cordier acquired it, followed by his son, Georges, then his grandson, Jean. Under their guidance, Talbot became one of the most famous growths in the Bordeaux region. After Jean Cordier's death during the autumn of 1993, his two daughters, Lorraine and Nancy, took over and formed a team that for more than 15 years animated this Grand Cru with all the talent and respect that it merited. Today, Nancy Bignon Cordier and her husband, Jean-Paul Bignon, pursue the history of Talbot; a long history which has always united with passion the destiny of a family to that of a vineyard.
Region Info/ Origin
Saint Julien first became famous for its Bordeaux wine back in the 17th century. At that time, St Julien was in the stage of development, to become a major Bordeaux wine producing appellation in the Left Bank when the entire area of the Medoc was discovered and populated by wealthy aristocrats. Coinciding with creating the famous vineyards we know today, the new landowners quickly began erecting massive showpiece chateaux throughout the region. Many of the original Saint Julien estates are still standing today and can be easily noticed while driving down the famous D2 highway.
