Description/ Tasting Notes

Clean, iridescent, with an extremely elegant presence. With notes of pale yellow color and intense greenish nuances that highlight its freshness. The first sensation is of pear, ripe apple and grapefruit, leading to a second level of sensory complexity that combines white flower essences with hints of lemon balm, lime blossom, white nettle and fennel seed. Full and dense body. The pleasant and full fruity sensation always leaves room for floral and balsamic essences in the aftertaste. Too complex.

Winery Info/ Brand

The Gorka Izaguirre winery is a project that was born in the 90s, with the union of several producers whose aim was to create a winery that would allow them to make high-quality wines from the excellent yield of their vineyards. It was in 2005 when the owners of the restaurant Azurmendi, Eneko and his uncle, Gorka, designed the actual project to rejuvenate the area at a winemaking and a gastronomic level. This is when they began to produce in their current location, Larrabetzu. Right now, they cultivate 40 hectares from 25 vinegrowers, distributed among 6 municipalities of Vizcaya. The aim of Gorka Izagirre is to recover and give value to the local varieties Hondarrabi Zuri and Hondarrabi Zerratia, treating them with care in the winery, just as they are treated in the vineyard.

Region Info/ Origin

Basque Country wine region is an Autonomous Community in northern Spain. It sits on the extreme western end of Spain's border with France. The region is bounded by the Bay of Biscay to the north and the autonomous communities of Navarra to the east, La Rioja to the south, and Cantabria to the west. The Basque people are proudly independent, having their own culture and unique language. In the last few decades, the Pais Vasco has become famous for its cuisine, its wine is still relatively unknown. Wine-making is nothing new to the Basques. Like many parts of Spain, vineyards in the Basque Country have been tended since Ancient Roman times. It seems only appropriate that most of the wines produced in the region are light, fresh white wines. Basque Country wine region is the land of a zingy, zesty, and slightly fizzy wine Txakolina. This bright, refreshing, tangy, slightly effervescent, dry, and very mineral wine is made primarily from local grapes called Hondarribia Zuri and Hondarribia Beltza.
