About Rioja

The Rioja wine region is located in North-Central Spain along the Ebro River. Its principal red grape is Tempranillo, and for white grapes, Viura and Malvasia are dominant. Rioja's wine region consists of various soil types, with chalky-clay, ferrous-clay and alluvial being the dominant soil types. These distinct vitivinicultural characteristics of the sub-regions in Rioja result in a wide range of wines with different personalities. The fruity Rioja blend, made from a blend of Tempranillo, Garnacha, and sometimes Mazuelo and Graciano, is known for its dominant cherry flavour, yet firm structure that is similar to Cabernet Sauvignon.
