About Champagne

The heart of the Champagne region lies Northeast of Paris, near the Belgian border. The towns of Reims and Epernay – situated in the department of Marne – house the major Champagne Houses. Reims is home to the famed Veuve Clicquot Champagne House, while Moet & Chandon and Perrier-Jouet are headquarted in Epernay. The soils Champagne’s vineyards consist of deep chalk, which provide good drainage. Vine roots dig deep into the chalky soil in search of water and nutrients, and the high amount of minerals absorbed by the roots result in a characteristic chalky, mineral taste that is unique to Champagne.
