Paul and Roger Zuger bought the estate, which then consisted of only 7 hectares (17 acres) of vineyards, on the 1st June 1955. After nearly 30 years of unflagging hard,painstaking work, Malescot has regained its former status and ambition to climb ever higher. Today, Roger Zuger's son, Jean-Luc, supervises all the work in the vineyards and the making of our wine with its illustrious history. And yet it hasn't always been plain sailing for this fine estate, which as long ago as 1608 was producing some 30 to 40 casks on our "Curton", Puch Sam Peyre", "Ourmatan" and "Lacoste" plots. The Margaux appellation encompasses the village of Margaux and the neighbouring villages of Arsac, Labarde, Soussans and Cantenac. Being the most southerly of the Médoc's appellations, it has the thinnest soil in the region with the highest proportion of gravel that allows the soil to drain very well. The wine from this area are very susceptible to weather effects during the growing season. Encountering all seasons with adequate irrigation, relatively good rainfall and good amount of sunlight, the crop yields a bountiful harvest year-on-year.
